Big Daddy's Southwestern Brine

The flavor of the chiles and cumin will permeate the meat during the brining process.  Delicious!

1 quart   water
½ cup   kosher salt (or ¼ cup table salt)
⅓ cup   brown sugar
1 teaspoon   granulated garlic
2 tablespoons   chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin

Combine all in a saucepan and gently warm until the salt has dissolved.  Cool down to at least room temperature before using.
