Judy's Sparkling Party Punch

Our friend Judy passes along this family recipe.  Long a favorite at our parties this sparkling punch is tasty and bubbly.  Spiked or straight it's always a big hit.   This easily fills 2 large punch bowls but can be cut down to make smaller batches.

1 gallon cranberry juice
3 46 oz cans pinapple juice
3 cups sugar
4 teaspoons almond extract
8 liters ginger ale
1 liter vodka or rum -- optional

Freeze, ahead of time, one or two large blocks of ice. Mix all ingredients. Add ice and serve in your favorite punch bowl. If preparing in advance mix all except the ginger ale which should be added at the last minute.
