Baked Brown Rice

This simple recipe from Alton Brown is the only way we prepare brown rice here at the ranch.  Since I first tried it I was convinced that it can't be any simpler, more full proof or more delicious.

2½ cups water, or broth
1½ cups brown rice, medium ro short grain
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Spread the rice into a 8x8 inch baking dish.

Bring the water, butter, and salt just to a boil in a kettle or covered saucepan. Once the water boils, pour it over the rice, stir to combine, and cover the dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 1 hour.

After 1 hour, remove cover, fluff the rice with a fork, recover and let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.
