Baked Brie with Brown Sugar and Almonds

Dear Wife had an appetizer similar to this at a cooking show she attended a few years back.  No recipe was available but we have experimented enough to come up with this version.  It is excellent.  The kind of luscious munchy that will have your guests raving.

1  8 ounce   ripe brie cheese
1/3 cup   finely sliced almonds
1 tablespoon   brandy
¼ cup   brown sugar
1 loaf   crusty French baguette

Mix the almonds, sugar and brandy together in a small bowl.  Place the brie on an oven proof dish and bake at 400 degrees until the cheese has begins to soften, about 5 minutes or so.  Spread the sugar mixture over the brie and return to the oven until sugar melts and the cheese is soft but not runny.

While brie is in oven slice the baguette into pieces about ¾" inch thick.   When brie is ready spread some cheese with a bit of the topping on a piece of the baguette and eat immediately.

Note:  This should be prepared only when all of your guests have arrived and ready for appetizers as this really needs to be served while still warm.
